SPICE TOUR

Four hour guided tour, which starts at Kibweni Palace through to Kidichi. Here are the Persian Baths built by Seyyid Said Sultan for his wife the Princess Shehrzard, one of the family member of the Shah of Persia. You will then proceed to Kizimbani spice plantations. Here you can see, touch and sometime taste a wide variety of spices, fruits, herbs and ornamental plants and flowers.

 

HISTORICAL CITY TOUR

It is a three-hour tour which begins at your hotel or entry point where you walk and driven around the Historic old city.

Our first visit the fruit market which was opened in 1904. Here you will see and buy a Variety of the tropical fruits and spices. This is the best place where you will feel multiculturalism of Zanzibar consisting of the residents of different origin. From here you will then proceed to the Anglican Cathedral at Mkunazini built by Bishop Streers in 1874 exactly on the site of the former slave market.

The guide will also show you the place where is believed that slaves were kept before auctioned.

The crucifix of the Church came from the tree in Chitambo under which the heart of Dr. Livingstone was buried. From here the next stop is the National Museums of Zanzibar commonly called Peace Memorial Museums.

 

There is a wide collection of the natural history and artifacts to admire including the drums of the last traditional ruler "Mwinyi Mkuu" who ruled the southern part of the island. There is also what is used to be Dr. Livingstone Medicinal box.On your way to Forodhani Gardens you will see the former British Consulate. It is believed that the postmoterm of the body of Dr. Livingstone was done.

 

Many explorers too like Stanley came to this building for administrative procedure before exploration to the interior. Few metres from here is Old Fort. This was first built by the Portuguese and used as a chapel but changed its use to the garrison when the Arabs took over then, a railway station and now an open air Theatre with regular weekly cultural programmes.

 

Next to this is the tallest building in Zanzibar called House of Wonders or locally as 'Beit- El-Ajaib". It was built by the Sultan for ceremonial and administrative functions now is a museum worthily visiting.

 

After this it is your chance to walk around the narrow streets of the Town where most of the houses date back to more than 150 years. In this part of the Town you will see many bazaars, curio shops, restaurants, stores selling a number items for the souvenirs. Then you will visits Dr. Livingstone House.

You have to pay a small entry fee to see the Museum by same name. The last stop of this excursion is Marahubi to see the Palace Ruins built by Sultan Barghash in 1880

 

DOLPHIN TOUR

Situated on the southern point of the island, Kizimkazi fishing village is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins and Humpback dolphins, which can often be sighted following a short boat trip from the village.

 

If you are lucky, you may be able to swim quite close to the dolphins, which can be a

very rewarding experience. We are doing this trip in the afternoon to avoid the crowds of tourists in the morning, which in big numbers disturbing the dolphins. Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th century mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa, and is thus worth a visit for both natural and

cultural reasons.

 

NORTH COAST (NUNGWI)

A full day excursion to the extreme north of the island via Marahubi, and Mvuleni where you can visit the Portuguese Ruins. There are number of very interesting things to see and do including the traditional fishing village itself with resident speaking a peculiar swahili dialect. Then the turtle aquarium with

various species.

 

A traditional boat yard and local market are amazing. At the end of the walk you can either relax on the sandy beaches or go swimming in the natural sea. Lunch and refreshments are arranged there to taste local delicacies or international food.

 

PRISON ISLAND BOAT TRIP

It is a relaxation excursion that takes half-day on the beautiful island off the Zanzibar Town. The use of the island has changed overtime. Although it was originally built as a prison it was never put into that function.

 

Later it was used as a quarantine of slaves for the whole of East Africa. The remnants of the built are still visible. The island offers a stunning view of the Town especially during the night; there is very beautiful minor sandy beach where swimming on the crystal waters is marvelous. The coral reefs surrounding the island provide an opportunity of snorkeling. This is also a home of the giant tortoise, which is now under strict conservation. A short-guided tour around the island will provide the real picture.

 

Safari Blue

Adventure Afloat developes 'Safari Blue', a very special product comprising a full day excursion exploring the very beautiful Conservation area of Menai Bay, south-west of Zanzibar Island. Safari Blue' departs from the fishing village of Fumba exploring from there the sandbanks, islands, lagoons and wonders of the Bay and the Indian Ocean in the comfort of our traditional dhows.

On arrival the participants are given a short briefing about the program for the day and safety on board.

The dhows are hand built from African mahogony, finished and maintained to the very highest standards. The most stunning natural creations must be the two pristine sandbanks of soft white sand which rise out of the turquoise blue of the Indian Ocean.

 

We stop at one sandbank in the morning to snorkel over

the coral reef and then to relax and swim. There we offer fresh green coconuts and a light snack. 

 

After snorkelling, if the tide permits, we move on to have lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon on a second sandbank near to the island of Pungume. The sandbanks have been described by many clients

as the most idyllic places in the world.

 

JOZANI FOREST TOUR

This is a guided tour, which takes 3 hours to Jozani. The Forest is the only remaining natural vegetation.

 

It is a home of many endemic species of fauna and flora. Here you will see the red colubus monkey, velvet cats, a variety of small trees, shrubs, swamps and grasses. When walk through the mangrove

board you will see prawns, and different species of mangroves.

 

Swahili Cultural Tours

A four-hour excursion, which takes you to Kizimkazi to the southern part of the island. Kizimkazi is a traditional fishing and farming village. It has a long history dating in the 12 century. It is the first place

visited by the Persian who built a mosque in 1170.

 

In the mosque are inscription written in kofic. The

exceptional long graves here are still a misery. A wall whose remains are visible even today formerly surrounded the village.

Most residents of this village are fisherman but are also small farmers. Typical activities include food gathering, artisanship and businesses. You will enjoy seafood and locally grown fruits and root crops such as cassava, bananas and coconuts too.
